Who we are

AuroraSignal (“we”, “us”) is operated by an individual based in Poland (European Union), who is the data controller. We run the website aurorasignal.live, a free informational tool that displays live aurora and space-weather data sourced from public providers (NOAA SWPC, SOLAR-1, ACE, GOES, WDC Kyoto and IRF). This policy explains what data is processed when you visit the site, how cookies and advertising work, and the choices you have.

What data we process

We do not run user accounts and we do not ask you for personal information. The site's interface runs in your browser; the space-weather data itself is fetched and cached by our server and served from our own domain (some illustrative imagery loads directly from third-party science providers — see “Data we share”). Two categories of data are involved:

  • Server logs. Like most websites, our server automatically records standard technical information for each request — IP address, date and time, the page requested, referrer and browser user-agent. These logs are used only for security, abuse prevention and aggregate diagnostics; the legal basis is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in operating and protecting the site. They are rotated and deleted automatically, typically within 14 days.
  • Local storage in your browser. We store small preferences on your device (your chosen language and your cookie-consent choice). This never leaves your browser and is not sent to us.

Cookies and advertising

We use Google AdSense to display advertising, which helps keep the site free. When advertising is enabled and you have consented, Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.

If you do not consent, we instruct Google to serve non-personalised ads where possible, which rely on the current page context rather than your profile. You can change your choice at any time via the “Cookie settings” link in the footer.

Consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before non-essential cookies (such as advertising cookies) are used; the legal basis for these cookies is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). We implement Google Consent Mode: until you accept, advertising and measurement storage default to “denied”. Your choice is stored locally so we do not ask again on every visit, and you can withdraw or change it at any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer.

Data we share

We do not sell your personal data. Advertising data is handled by Google as described in the Google Privacy & Terms and Google Privacy Policy; Google may process this data on servers in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses. The core space-weather data is requested by our server on your behalf, so those providers do not receive your identity. However, some illustrative imagery and video (for example from NASA and other science providers) loads directly from their servers, which therefore receive standard request data such as your IP address, under their own privacy policies.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, or for any privacy question, contact us at the address below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
